May 27. It has transpired that tho Khedive has addressed a letter to Her Majesty Queen Victoria requesting that Baker Pasha (Colonel Valentine Baker) may be reinstated in the position in the British army which, he previously held.

Telegrams have been received from the Governor of Dongola stating that he has defeated the rebels in the neighborhood of Dettah, and recaptured that town.
