The French Government for some time past has been advancing obstacles in the way of the protected Conference on Egyptian affairs. Recent negotiations, however, resulted in smoothing the difficult ties, and there are now prospects of an early meeting of the European delegates in London. . The Marquis of Normanby, who is now in San Francisco, has forwarded to the Queen a petition, from the chiefs of Tanna praying for the. annexation of the New; Hebrides by Australia. .. ! Sir H. B, Loch, the Governor elect of Victoria, has sailed for Australia.
