The Presbyterian Assembly has been sitting to consider the application of the Scots Church for a Bill to enable it to leave the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. The trial of Henry Morgan for the murder of a little girl named Margaret Nolan, at Panmurc, near Warrnambool, in November last, concluded on Saturday, when the prisoner Avas condemned to death. The Railway Commissioners are taking steps to have all passenger trains supplied witli continuous brakes. Saunders and Boletha's automatic vacuum brake is to be fitted on the overland express trains.
Sydney, May 13
A great number of men continue unemployed, despite the efforts of the Government to provide Avork. Many of the number seem disinclined to accept the offer, preferring to receive charitable aid. It is understood that the Government intend to convert the Wolverine into a training ship. Dr. Murray, Roman Catholic Bishop of Maitland, has roceiA-ed a letter from Archbishop Moran, stating that he will leave for Australia in July. Bishop Barry presided at a meeting of the Blue Ribbon mission last night, and spoke in favor of the moA'emcnt. Over 8000 persons have donned the ribbon since the arrival of General Booth.
Adelaide, May 12
The commission appointed to report on the best means of relieving tho destitute has held its sittings. Mr Reed, the chairman, made a proposal for compulsory weekly payments to be made by all young men between 17 and 25, in order to insure against sickness aud old age. The journeymen bakers went out on strike on Saturday, but no public inconvenience ensued.
The City Council have adopted a report of the Town Hall Committee recommending it to consider any proposition for holding sacred concerts or organ recitals in the ToAvn Hall on Sunday afternoons.
