COMMERCIAL.
The local agent of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has received the following telegram from the London office, dated London, 29th April : — Wool.—The sales opened on the 20th instant at an average decline of 5 per cent. on last sales' closing rates, except for crossbred, which is firmer. Up to date 360,00 0 bales have arrived, but 400,000 bales are admissable for the series ; 60,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. The opening catalogue contained 8600 bales, but was not a representative one.
Wheat.—Market quiet. Adelaide is worth 43/6, and New Zealand 39/6 per 06 lbs. Adelaide, f.0.b., is worth c.i.f. to arrive 41/ per 480 lbs. Tallow.—Market quiet. Mutton is worth 40/, and beef 37/ per cwt. Leather.—Market firm. Best sides are worth Hid per lb. N.Z. Hemp.—Market quiet. Fine is worth £27 per ton, nominally.
