EARTHQUAKE.
Masterton, iThis day. A smart shock of earthquake was felt here at 6.50 last evening, accompanied by noise. Fielding, This day. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt at 6.53 last night. Haweea, This day. A severe shock of earthquake was felt at G. 50 last evening. Tho direction was N.E. to S.W., preceded by a loud rumbling noise. The duration is estimated at from 20 to 30 seconds. It commenced with a' prolonged slight shaking, then heavy shocks, and finished with slight shaking. No damage is reported. Blenheim, This day. A severe shock of earthquake was experienced hero at 6.50 last night, which lasted seven seconds. The direction was north to south. No damage is reported, but tho audience in the Wesleyan Church were awaiting a sorvice of song, and were greatly alarmed by the shake, several ladies rushing to the doors. Nelson, This day. A very severe shock of earthquake was experienced here at 6.50 last evening, which lasted fully ten seconds, the direction being from north to south. It commenced with a violent shako. No damage was occasioned, excepting some glassware broken in private dwellings. Westport. This day. A very severe shock of earthquake was folt hore at 6.47 last evening. It lasted over a minute, the direction being east to west. No damage was occasioned. Lyell, This day. A smart shock of earthquake was felt at G. 50 last evening, lasting ten seconds. The direction waa S.E. to N.W. CinusTcnußCii, This day. A smart shock of earthquako was felt here at 6.50 p.m. yesterday. Wellington, This day. The seismometer at the Museum records tho following in regard to tho earthquake: —" Sharp jerk from N.N.E., with two circular movements outwai-ds and displacement to the south at 6.49 p.m., duration one second. After five seconds' interval there was a long E. and W. undulation, lasting fifteen seconds, with slight final displacement towards E.
