THE LICENSING ELECTION.
[To the Editor ov the Daily Telegraph. J Sir,—ln order to correct a misapprehension •whioh I hoar is very prevalent, permit mo to state that the committee to be elected tomorrow has no jurisdiction over clubs. It has been reported that one object of the present agitation is to deprive one club, invidiously selected, of its right to trado in liquor. As tho club charters under the existing law are granted direct by the Colonial Secretary, the result of the present election can havo no effect upon them. The objects of tho present movement were very clearly stated at tho public meeting. When tho temperance bodies take up the question of club licenses, thoy will do it openly, and without distinction as to the supposed social status of the bodies in question.—l am, &c, R. Coupland Harding. 27th February, 1884.
