EARL CAIRNS ON CHRISTIAN MISSIONS.

The annual meoting of the Church Missionary Society was held a short timo ago, in tho Kirk at Gatehouse, N.B. Rev. J. Coates, minister; Rev. E. Walton, chaplain, and rector of the Enirlish Church at Calais ; al<o the Rev. J. Thomas, as deputation, uddrussed tho meeting. Earl Cairns, who presided, and was introduced by Mr Horatio Murray Stuart, said: "There aro several reasons why wo aro called ou to further missionary work, and hold missionary meetings. Tho command, "Go yo into all the world," was not intended to be limited only to those few disciples to whom the words were addressed ; it ought to be our delight, as it certainly is our duty, to carry tho Gospel message to all parts of the world. Thoso of us who have already received Christ into our own hearts, and who know tho blessing of having our sins forgiven through tho death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, cannot rest unconcerned about the spread of this glorious message God uses men and women as his instruments, to convey His goodwill to men, in telling them of his great love wherewith Ho loved us, and that they also may be saved through Jesus Christ. It encourages thoso who havo gone forth as missionaries when tbcv know that wo at home are thinkin _ of and praying for thorn, and that whilo they aro suffering loneliness and hardship, with all tho separation and self-denial involved iv being severed from home, there are hearts following them, and earnest, prayerful effort being made on behalf of tho glorious work they aro gone to do. Lord Cairns then spoke of tho marvellous success that has been vouchasfed in many places— Sierra Leone, several parts of Africa, China, and Fiji.
