WELLINGTON RACES HANDICAPPING.

[To the Editor oe the Daily Teleoraph.] Sin,—On looking over tho Herald of yesterday morning I could not help being struck with the report of the above meeting. There was nothing very noticeablo in the report until the few lines at tho finish flashed across my visionary orbs. Thero it states that lavish praises were heaped upon Mr J. O. Evett for the skill he evinced in handicapping. The stewards also gave Mr Evett great credit for the efficient manner in which he brought tho horses together. I should like to know where tho good handicapping came in. If we are to take the report of the racing published in the Herald as any criterion of handicapping, then I say "the results proved a great failure so far as finishing was concerned. For instance, the ball opened Avith the Railway Stakes, f mile ;on the turn into the straight Mischief was let out, and was soon alongside the leaders; whips were used freely on all tho others, Mischief's jock, sitting still, won with great ease, Minerva a bad fourth. Grand handicap. Hutt Park Stakes. Salvage won easily. Hurdle Handicap, Clarence drew away and won hard held. Excellent judgment. Wel-ling-ton. Hacing Club Handicap : on entering the straight Salvage was half a length ahead, was never caught, winning very easily. Excellent knowledge. By the above you will see that neither whip nor spur was used on a winner all the clay. Very close finishing indeed. I wonder who inspired tho message?—l am, &c, Bolster. Napier, February sth, 1884.
