BOYS AND GIRLS.

It is found tint between tho agp.s of "> arid 10 years boys grow more rapidly than girls ; but in the next five years of life the rever.su is the case, ho that between 1 and 14;}girls are actually killer than boys, and between 12-]- iind years of ago they nrrj positively heavier. In tho next quinquennial period, viz., from lii to 20, the mules tako tho lend, completing their growth at about the ago of 23 ; the girls grow more slowly, but arrive at their full stature in the 20th year. In strength the progress of the two saxes is nearly parallel, that of boys increases steadily with their weight from 12 to 19 years, and then more slowly up to 30 years of age, when it is at its maximum development, declining with increasing , rapidity to 60. When quite young the disparity of muscular strength between the two sexes, is less marked than later on; thus, at 11 years of age, girls are weaker than boys by a force of 2'2lbs ; but at 20 the difference is 3Glb. This arises from the greater increase in the development of males. It is doubtful whether the disparity between the strength of tho two sexes is us great in nil countries as in Great Britain, in those localities where women do a largo proportion of the ngrieultural labor it is probable that their strength more nearly approaches that of the men ; but in this country, in which women take to pursuits or follow occupations not tending to develop muscular power, they soon fall behind in tho r.ito of increaso of strength.—The Queon.
