WOOL SALES.
Invercaegill, This day
The first wool sales of the season were held here yesterday. There was a good representative attendance of buyers, resulting in keen competition throughout, with good prices, taking into consideration those ruling of late in the London market. There were 1491 bales and 206 bags catalogued. Trices may bo quoted as follows :—Leicester and Lincoln, 5d t« 7d ; crossbreds, 6d to dhd ; merinos, TJcl to Carswell, White and Co. sold first. Their catalogue consisted of 200 bales, and they cleared all but one lot. The National Mortgage and Agency Cumpany sold 318 bales out of 480 offered. The British and New Zealand Mercantile and Agency Company sold over 300 bales out of 450 offered. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's sale, which came last, wiih somewhat affected by the lateness of the hour at which it was held. They sold 347 bales out of 492 offered, most of the bags being withdrawn oiving to the reason above stated.
