Description.—Pohui District. Open fern hills intersected by narrow valleys, soil light, frontage to the Taupo road. Maungaharuru District. Fern hills and spurs on the western slopes of the Maungaharuru Range; the soil is light; about one-half of sections 2 and 3 is undulating country covered with natural grasses ; there ; are a few clumps of bush on section 1. Waitara District: Open fern country, hilly ; a bridle road on the permanent - grades has been formed a distance of twelve miles through the Block, starting _ from the Taupo road about thirty-five miles from Napier. SALE OF RUAKLTURI BLOCK, WAIROA, NEAR HAWKE'S BAY. 1 Q SECTIONS in the above Block, JLO comprising an area of 24,9G0 acres, will be offered for sale on immediate payments at Napier, on the 17th Janua V, 18S-_. Upset price from 6/- to 15/- per acre. At the same time and place 5 sections in tho same block, comprising an area of 48G5 acres, will be offered for lease for depasturing purposes for a period of ten years at an upset price per annum of from £7 10/- to £50 a section. Tho Ruakituri Block is situated in tho County of AVairoa, about 12 miles from the Township of Clyde. It extends some 20 miles to the westward from the Gisborne-AVairoa road, and lies between the Ruakituri and Mangaruhe rivers. The main road from Wairoa to Gisbore passes close to the eastern side of the block. Thirty-three miles of bridle roads on the permanent grades and seven miles of stock-driving roads, have been opened to these lands. The whole block, with the exception of a few flats on the Ruakituri River, is pastoral country. The vegetation consists of fern on the spurs and in the valleys, and of scrub and bush in the steep gullies. The soil varies; in places it is light and mixed with a slight coating of pumice, in other parts where the pumice drift has been washed down the steep hill sides it is a calcareous clay. The sub-soil is marl; on the higher hills there is an overlap of sandstone and a little limestone near To Tuhi. These lands will take grass by surface-sowing; the average cost for fencing, seed-sowing, &c, is from 20/----to 30/- per aero. Stumping three miles of road through the Rakaiatai Block in the vicinity of the ( Makotoku Railway Station. Specifications can be seen at the Railway Station, Makatoku, and at the District Survey Office, Napier. Mr. Bargh, Road Surveyor, will be at Makatoku at 11.30 a.m. on MONDAY aud TUESDAY, the 7th and Bth of January, and will take intending contractors over the roads. The contractor will be allowed to remove logs aud timber from the road lines which are included in the contract. There are a number of totara trees on ono of the roads.
