PERSONAL JOURNALISM.

The Cincinnati Encpiirer, one of the most prominent newspapers in the State of Ohio, has just supplied a striking example of personal journalism. Mr. Halstead, the editor of a rival paper, having incurred the displeasure of tho Enquirer, has been attacked in a style that would not discredit the celebrated fishwife of Billingsgate. The public is informed that Mr Halstead is "a mixture of rascality, vanity, and incapacity." Then that gentleman is told that the Enquirer's remarks are " addressed to him personally." "Stand up, Mr Halstead," says his censor, " and hear the truth. Your whole trouble is about your private condition. Tour business is a failure. In the eyes of tho people you are a conceited scoundrel. You are making a pitiable plea to newsagents and the reading public to circulate a newspaper which has always been devoted to the fruitless, thankless task of making the people believe you were a great man —that there was something big about you besides your bowels and the whites of your eyes." Much more information of the same pleasing character is imparted to Mr Halstead and the public. And the Enquirer justifies its attack in this wise—"We tell the truth because we have a contract with our readers to give them the exact facts." The final paragraph of the phillipic is a gem in its way—" Now, Halstead, rise up on your hind legs and yell !" We don*t know whether Mr Halstead has accepted this invitation or not; but we gather from the rest of the article that his offence against the Enquirer consisted in opposing the claims of its proprietor, who is a candidate for some political office in the State.
