A MAN BURIED ALIVE.

Considerable excitement was occasioned at Hay, N.S.AV., by a shocking occurrence which took place on the 13th November at a selection near tho town. A laboring man, named Jimmy AVork, employed in renewing the slabs iv a deep well, was suddenly overtaken by a sanddrift, which buried him up to his neck. Realising his perilous position, whilo gradually sinking in the treacherous soil, he shouted out to his mate, Peterson, Avho Avas above, to run hastily and procure assistance—Avhich could only be procured at a place a quarter of a milo distant. Petersen lost no time in getting help,, and ivhen ho ran back to the well found Jimmy AVork still alive, but in much danger, apparently greatly exhausted, as he ivas gradually, but surely, sinking in the sand, Work was heard to exclaim, "My God ! I'll never get out of this." Petersen having been let doAvn the avcll, endeavored to rescue his companion, who repeatedly urged on his exertions, Avhen suddenly another influx of sand occurred, Avhich completely buried Work, and compelled Petersen to seek his OAvn safety by being draAvn up. Night coming on, nothing further could be done for the doomed man. Next day rencAvcd efforts were mado to got him out, and the police having been informed of tho occurrence, visited tho scone of the accident. All their efforts Averc, hoAvever, unsuccessful, and fresh operations were to be begun by some experienced diggers.
