The local agent of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company lias received the following telegram from tho London office of the company, under date the llfch iuafc.: —Wool market unchanged. Wheat market quiet; Adelaide is worth 40s od, and New Zealand 43s per lOOlbs. Tallow market firm ; mutton 435, and beef 39s 0d per owt. Leather market quiet; best sides, N.Z. homp market firm ; iinc is worth £'27 per ton. Messrs Banner and Liddlo's first wool sale of the season was held yesterday, when a catalogue of 490 bales were offered, the largest quantity yet submitted for auction in Hawkc's Bay. There was a fair selection of wools, all in good, condition. The attendance of buyers was largo, and compotitition on the whole pretty brisk. Prices showed v decline in sympathy with the London market, but were still very satisfactory to tho growers. Most of tho lots •withdrawn during the sale have since been placed at satisfactory figures. The following are the prices realised for the various descriptions : —Merino fleece, B£d to 9d ; do pieces, s§d; do locks, 2.J-d; crossbred fleece, 6-Jd to 7i : d ; Lincoln 0d to 6.U1 ; crossbred pieces, 3yd to 4d ; odd lots fetched up to s|d. The next sale will bt hold in January, 1881, for which a fair quantity is already entered, particulars of which will be duly advertised.
