WASTE LANDS BOARD

This Day. Present: Commissioner of Crown Lands, Messrs Sutton, M.H.R., Harding, J. T. Tylee, and Captain Russell. The following correspondence was read: — From Mr Neil Thomson. It was decided to return the letter to Mr Thomson, with an intimation that tho Board will not receive or consider any further correspondence from him if expressed in the insulting language which ho has thought fit to assume on this occasion. From Mr Evan Griffiths, lessee of Tarawera Hotel, asking the Board to remit tho whole or a portion of the penalty which he has incurred for tho non-payment of the rout due on September Ist.—lt was decided to recommend tho Hon. the Minister of Lands to reduce the penalty to £25.

From Mr D. M'Callum, chairman of a public meeting hold at Danevirke, asking the Board to havo reserved as a recreation ground section 12, Danevirke, and to reserve a section in tho township of Danevirko as a site fora Mechanic's Institute.—Resolved to recomend the Hon. the Minister of Lands to reserve suburban section 12, containing •10 acres, for a recreation ground, and section -1, Block 11., Danevirke, for a Mechanic's Institute, section 12 not to vest in trustees until after August 14, 1883.

From Mr Christopher Gaustad, Lutheran clergyman, requesting the Board to grant a site for a church at Danevirke, and if a site cannot be given to sell one to the settlers.— It was decided to inform Mr Gaustad that tho Land Act does not provide for granting sites for place of public worship, and that an opportunity will be afforded to the settlers of purchasing a site at an early date. From Mr James Curry, application to purchase totara posts which have been cut at tho back of section 13 in the Bush Mills Settlement.—Referred to tho Crown Lands Ranger to report on, the Chairman to act after he has received the Hanger's report. Application from Morten Jensen and Co. for permission to lay down a tramway through section G2, Norsowood.—Granted, tho Board retaining the power to close the tramway at any time without giving the proprietors any notice whatsoever. Telegrams from the chairman of the New Zealand Frozen Meat and Storage Company requesting the, Board to put up to auction 730 acres on the Taupo road in the Mangaharuru survey district, adjoining Mr Cunningham's freehold, also section 2, block 8, Polvui survey district, containing 616 acres.—lt was decided to survey and sell by auction one-half of the 730 acres of Crown lauds in Maungaharuru survey district, fronting the Taupo road. It was also decided to recommend the Govenment to offer ut auction the lease for a period of 21 years of section 3, Block 8, Poluii survey district, at an upset rental of 2d per acre per annum for the first seven years, -id for the second seven years, and Gd for the tliU'd

From Mr Norman, asking the Board to accept the erection of a saw-mill on his holding, soction 1, Block 0, Woodvillo district, in place of the clearing required by the regulations, to be completed at tho expiration of the second year of occupation. —Agreed to. Mr James Ilutehins, on behalf of the holder of section 11, Bush Mills Blocks, applies to pay balance or the purchase money. It was decided to authorise the chairman to deal with the matter after the Crown Lauds Ranger lias reported on the improvements that have been made. It was decided to recommend the Governor to proclaim town and suburban lands belonging to the Crown in tho vicinity of Dancvirko a village settlement under sections 20, 21, and 22 of the Land Act, and to request the Survey Department to replace pegs in the village that had been burned or destroyed, and if found necessary to alter and re-fiurvey boundaries. It was decided that the subdivision of the section of the 10,000 acres endowment near Clyde, Wairoa, should be sold by public auction at the land sale to be held in Napier on January 17th, when the Crown land in tho Ruakituri and Waitara blocks will also bo offered.
