Tho Rev. Mr Shiriffs, Presbyterian minister from AA r aipukurau, HaAvke's Bay, committed suicide at 8 o'clock this morning at tho residence of Mr John McLean, Newtown. At the hour mentioned the door of his bed-room Avas burst open, Avhen the deceased was found hanging from a bedpost by a strap, and ay.is quite dead. It is believed that" lie was suffering from temporary insanity, and that tho reason of his visit here avus" to be placed in the asylum. An inquest will be held. The Rev. AVilliam Shiriffs, who committed suicide, Avas aged -12, and Avas a native of Aberdeen. He had been mentally depressed for some time, and camo hero for the benefit of his health. Ho leaves a wife and six children at AA 7 aipukurau. He formerly resided at Blenheim.
