As a three-year-old he carried oil three Derbys—Canterbury, Wellington, and Dunedin. At Canterbury bo rail" second for the Cup, weight for age, and on the folloAving day avou tho Christchurch Plato. Tho * Premier has also been a grand performer on f the turf, having Avon the AVairarapa Stakes, three miles, beating Koarria, Fishhook, and eight others. Ho also avou the Empire ■ Plate at AVellington, beating a large field ; but, like St. Patrick, lie Avas put to the stud . too soon without giving him a chance to distinguish himself, as his family has done before and after him. St. Patrick is ono of tho handsomest horses ever bred in Ncav Zealand. Ho is thoroughly sound, lias a bountiful head and muscular neck let into slanting shoulders, short back, grand quarters, long gaskins, good logs, and flat bono. He possesses all that is necessary in a sire, size, bone, and breeding. He is out of that far-famed mare Phoenix by Gownsman (imported), out of Ikamataki by Figaro (imported), out of Brunette by Riddlesworth (imported). Phoenix lias been a clipper on tho turf. Sho lias taken eight first prizes, three at Loavci- Hutt, AVellington, three at r AA r airarapa, and tAvo more at Canterbury, c while with Traduccr it can be plainly seen , that St. Patrick's ancestors came from a 0 racing family, and were racers themselves, f St. Patrick never had a chance to show - whether he could race or not, as ho never - started in anything. I had him under pre--1 paration forSJmouths lavo years ago, Avhenthc - disqualification by the Hawke's Bay Racing 3 Club was placed upon mc, and under these circumstances poor Pat had to return to the l paddock.
