INTERNATIONAL FEELING.
A London paper, A'anity Fair, says that a most serious event occurred tho other day at Cowes. Mrs (Just, who has ahvays discountenanced inferior persons and entertained angels uiuiAvarcs, gave a party to a very limited number of very distinguished people, and among others to M. AA r addington, tho French Ambassador, Avho Avas brought by Commodore His Royal Highness the Prince of AVales. In the course of tho evening M. AVaddingfon expressed some opinions the reverse of complimentary of the English fleet, and .alleged that the
French fleet Avas far superior to" it in every way. Sir Harry Keppel, Avho Avas present, very naturally "resented this, and said he tdiould like to get the French fleet outside and have a turn-up Avith them, whereupon tho dispute Avaxed Avarin. Lord Charles Beresford iioav came into action, and from words tho French Ambassador and the British sailors proceeded to come to blows. The Prince was, as might be expected, much concerned at this, and at his suggestion Mrs Oust precipitated herself, at much danger to herself, betAVcen the disputants, and restored something like order for a time. But shortly afterwards the discussion was renewed oven more vigorously, and at last tho French Ambassador Avas hustled out of tho room, and fin.tlly pitched over tho wall ol Mrs Cast's garden into the street. By dint of much exertion and many apologies, Mrs Oust induced him to come buck," and Avith his log seriously damaged, if not broken by his fall, and still so much offended that it. was feared by nll that he would demand his passport and return to Paris, there to represent the matter. Tho Avhole of Cowes is ringing Avith and Ocinvassiny this matter, ;u:d yreat upprehensions exist, Avhil" every kind of rumor is flying about iv connection Avith if. The latest of these rumors is that the French Ambassador was not an Ambassador at all, but AY. 11. Russell got, up on his return from Egypt to represent a Frenchman, and that the "whole thing Avas a practical joke previously arranged by tho Prince of Wales, tho Admiral of the licet, and the Captain. It may turn out that this explan-ation—far-fetched as it must seem—is a true one. It Avould bo very lamentable that, Mrs Cast should innocently haA-e become the cause of a rupture between Franco and England. The World, commenting on the matter, says tho Queen is greatly annoyed over tho Avhole affair.
