THE PROPERTY TAX.

The following regulation under ttic Property Assessment Act appears in the last Gazette :—''Notice is given that lhe property tax under the Property Tax Act, 1883, for tho year commencing on the first day of April, 1883, will be payable on Saturday, the Ist of December, in the same year; and the places in each district where the tax shall bo paid shall bo at any postofiices within the district which are_ also money order offices, except in the district of Wellington, in which district the tax shall be paid at any such post-office as aforesaid and at the office of the Property Tax Commissioner, Wellington." Tho accounts for the tax due on December Ist were posted on Thursday. The number is stated to be nearly 24,000.
