Thursday. Tho police have commenced proceedings against other sweep promoters. Sir William Robinson, Governor of South Australia, and Sir George Strahan, _ Governor of Tasmania, arc now on a visit to Melbourne. At the wool sale to-day of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company the catalogue comprised 2400 bales, of which 22G0 were sold. The catalogue was composed of unusually choice lots, including several leading clips from the Western districts. A parcel of 200 bales of greasy sold at M|d, the highest price this season. Scoured brought up to 22id. Prices generally were very satisfactory There was a large attendance of buyers, and brisk competition was again experienced. The opening rates of the season were firmly maintained.
