LONDON

October 30. The proposal of Tawhiao, the Maori King, to pay a visit to England, has been brought under the notice of the Secretary of State for tho Colonies. Lord Derby, it is announced, has addressed a despatch to Sir William Jervois requesting information regarding the Maori King, and asking his opinion on the subject of Tawhiao's proposed visit. The report that Mr Gladstone would spend the winter at Cannes is proved to be without foundation.
