THE BOAT RESOLUTE.

[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sir, —In reference to the remarks passed on Captain Tonkin's opinion of the boat Resolute by several correspondents in your issue of last night, I think they might have confined their remarks to the boat, and not have introduced the unfortunate crew. It is well known that poor Meek was an experienced hand at beat sailing, he having been appointed eoxwainVf No. 2 cutter of the Wellington Naval Artillery and having held that post for four years. He also owned a yacht, which he sailed successfully in several races at Wellington. De la Hayo also owned a boat, and had a deal of practice in yachting. We will not venture an opinion on the boat Resolute, but will leave it to others more competent to judge of her seaworthiness. We may also add that Captain Tonkin did not air his opinion (as stated) until he was asked, and it was the jury that caused it to bo published.— Wo arc, &0., The Survivors. Napier, October 31, 1883.
