Scotland's Pride gained the first prize as the best three-year-old at the Highland Society's Show, and also the Prince of Wales' prize of 40 guineas for the best mare in the yard. Overdraft's dam, Highland Mary, has only succumbed in the showyard to her own'mother, Violet (dam of Lord Castlereagh and Lady Burdctte), who was shown fourteen times and won thirteen first prizes. It will be seen by reference to the above that Overdraft is closely related to the best horses in the world. He gained first prize as a yearling at Timaru, first prize as a two-year-old and first, prize as a three-year-old at the Hawke's Bay Shows in 1882 and 1883. Overdraft is a bright bay, with dark points. lie stands 1(12 on short legs, with wonderfully powerful bone and substance. He will be limited to twenty approved mares at 6 guineas each, which fee will bo returned should a mare not prove in foal. TO STAND THIS SEASON AT RIVERSLEA. *_ The Thoroughbred '.#i^ ss, * e^sw W _ —Entire Horse— O r Aw A - Opawa, by Ravcnswortb, out of Fairy by Glaucus—Sprav by Donizetti—Lady Ann by AVhisker—Ravens worth by Touchstone, etc. It will be seen by reference to the above pedigree that Opawa is bred the. right way for both pace and power, having on the sire's side the grand AVhalcbone, AVaxy and Pantaloon strains, whilst on his dam's side lie boasts as equally illustrious line of ancestry. As a racehorse Opawa proved himself "a worthy descendant of his high lineage, having won some of the best contested races on this coast, giving lumps of weight to his opponents. As a three-year-old, after standing the season, he ran two weight-for-age races at Blenheim. As a four-vcar-old, after standing the season, he won the AVanganui Stakes, .£BO, weightfor as-c, beating Folly, Black Eagle, Satellite, Tambourini, and Maid of the Mill. Tho next day ho came out again, and won the AV.J.C. Handicap, of £170, carrying Sst 31b, beating nine others, including Tambourini, Black Eagle, and Maori' AA r eed. In tho same month, at Taranaki, he won the Ci.-p of £50, weight for ago, two miles, beating Tambourini after a splendid struggle. The same clay, carrying Ost 2lb, be won the Ladies' Purse, beating Tambourini, Resolution, and Camelia. The next day Opawa placed tho T.J.C. Handicap, £100, to his credit, carrying Sst lib, and then finished the day by winning the Railway Slakes in a canter. The following year he again won the AV.J.C. Handicap, Ost 71b, and AVanganui Stakes, weight for age. Opawa also won several other well-contested races. It will be seen, therefore, that Opawa is well worthy of the attention of breeders, bis j pedigree being of the highest strains of j winning blood, and his performances unequalled on this side of the world. He is as sound as the day he was foaled, and possesses a constitution of unsurpassed excellence. His stock have turned out well, as his first season's foals furnished Doncaster, winner of the Marlborough Spring Stakes.
