October 17. The ship Turakina, outward bound for Auckland when leaving tho docks, collided with the quay, and sustained damage of so serious a nature that she has been compelled to return and discharge her cargo in order to repair the damages. October 18. Tho trial of O'Donncll for the murder of James Carey has been postponed till next month. Vague rumors arc current that _ tho Austrian' Government is mediating with a view to bring about more friendly relations between the Pope and Italy.
