Many of the Austrian and German papers arc advocating a systematic colonising of New Guinea by Germany. Messrs Alexander Brothers, of Sydney, have become bankrupt, with liabilities amounting to £52,000. Sir Julius Vogcl, in a letter to the Times, defends the nation of the Governor and the Premier of Victoria in excluding the Irish informers from landing in Australia.

The Parliamentary papers relating to the proposed annexation of New Guinea have been issued. . Among them is a despatch from Earl Granvillo asking France what number of convicts it is proposed to send to the Pacific, and what their position will be after arrival; also regarding the failure of the authorities of Noumea to apply for the extradition of escapees -who landed in Queensland. Lord Derby admits that if the number of French convicts in the Pacific is increased, the Imperial Government will be to unable to veto the Influx of Criminals Bill which the Queensland Government have proposed to put in force in the colony. Sir Arthur Palmer's despatch to Lord Derby considers that the attempt to govern 3STevr Guinea and the Australian, colonies by federation, as proposed by the British - Colouial Society, would result in a failure. The assets of Messrs Alexander Bros., of Sydney, arc estimated at £16,000.
