WASTE LANDS BOARD.
This Day. The Board met at 11 a.m. Present: — The Chief Commissioner (Mr Horace Baker) in the chair, Captain Russell, and Messrs F. Sutton, M.H.R., J. T. Tylce, and R. Harding. COHKESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered: — From the Under-Secrctnry for Crown Lands, forwarding a letter from the chairman of the Woodvillc Road Board stating that it had been resolved to ask the Government through Mr Smith, M.H.R., to set apart as recreation reserves for the town of Woodvillo rural sections 78 and 100, containing 40 acres 1 rood, and 2S acres and 1 rood respectively.—lt was decided to recommend the Minister of Lands to reserve section 78 for the purpose named, also that such reserve should be vested in trustees under the Public Reserves Act. From the Under-Secretary for Crown Lands (circular) suggesting that in those blocks where all or a greater number of the sections have been taken up under the doferrcdpayments system, that a definite scheme of road works should be approved by the Land Board upon which the whole of the payments due could bo made direct from the Treasury.—Resolved that the chairman should communicate with the local bodies interested. From Mr Mortensen, applying for permission to cut hop poles on (Jrown lands in the Norsowood district.—A report was also received from the Ranger on the same subject. —Decided that the chairman be authorised to make arrangements with tho applicant. From the Surveyor-General, stating that the Government does not see its way to subsidise the cost of erecting the rabbit-proof fence at Tautanc, but will lay off the proposed line. From Mr R. Dobson, hon. sec. to the Rabbit Prevention Committee, communicating certain resolutions passed by the committee.—Tho chairman said, with reference to one of the resolutions, that the survey of the proposed fence was in hand. With regard to the other portion of tho resolutions it was decided that a reserve one chain wide should bo laid oft' on each side of tho fence, and that when the survey is completed and the fence erected the Board will recommend that the same be proclaimed a reserve. From Messrs Gay and Haynes, Danevirke, requesting permission to cut burnt totara on certain Crown lands in that district. — Decided to sell by auction the rights asked for, for a period of nine moths, at an upset price of £2.1. From the secretary of the Waipukurau Small Farm Association, stating- that the association is prepared to pay up the balance of the purchase money. —Decided to receive the balance due. [Not concluded.]
