The Hon. Mr Whitaker, the Premier, tendered his resignation to tho Governor on Saturday afternoon, wdiioh was accepted, and Major Atkinson was entrusted by His Excellency with the formation of a now Administration. The cause of Mr AVhitaker's retirement from the Ministry is urgent private business; and, as his resignation necessarily involves that of all his colleagues in the Cabinet; the opportunity will bo doubtless taken advantage of by the, Hon. Mr Johnston of severing his connection with the Government of the country, and of proceeding to England. It was reported recently that two of the Judges were about to retire from the Bench, and that their places would be filled by Mr Whitaker and Mr Conolly. If there be any truth in that rumor Mr Conolly's retirement from tho Ministry will be j>ermanent. Major Atkinson will submit to the Governor the names of tho proposed members of the new Cabinet to-day. AA r e do not expect there will be any other changes than those involved in the resignations of the Premier and of tho Minister for Public Workß. ,
