LONDON
September 17
Nothing further has transpired regarding tho negotiations which arc still proceeding for the settlement of the Franco-Chinese difficulty in Tonquin. After their interview with Jiarl Granvillo the Marquis Tseng and M. Waddington left Warmer Castlo for Paris for tho purpose, it is believed, of carrying on the negotiations on the basis suggested by the British Minister for Foreign Affairs. The cargo of frozen meat on board the steamship Cuzco, from Sydney, arrived in good condition. The cargo of mutton by the ship Opawa from the Bluff arrived in good condition, but tho quality of the meat is inferior to previous shipments. The first portion of the cargo was sold to-day at 6}d to Gjd per lb. News is to hand that the ship St. Leonards, bound to New Zealand with emigrants, foundered in the Channel after collision with another vessel. All the passengers and crew of the St. Leonards have been landed at Dartmouth. O'Donncll who is charged with the murder of James Carey, tho Irish informer, has arrived at Plymouth from tho Cape, and will shortly be placed on his trial.
