SPORTING NOTES BY "HIPPO."

' I see by the acceptances that those horses I pointed out as being badly treated in tho Handicaps have not accepted, but the acceptances have been better than was expected—twelve having accepted for the Hurdles, fourteen for the Spring Handicap, and fifteen for the Flying Handicap. Loch Lomond has been placed under Munn's care to be prepared for his engagement in the Hurdles. Directly this was known he became a big favorite, which should be very flattering to Mr Munri. We have bookmakers innumerable here. One of our sporting tradesmen has opened a book on the Spring Handicap and Hurdles, and is laying a pair of boots (own make) to a shilling. Others, I believe, intend to follow suit by laying a bag of flour or chest of tea to a .shilling. The weather has been too rough and the ground to greasy for the horses to do any fast work, and nothing of any interest has taken place during the past week, unless it was the appearance of Kalo on tho track. He is a good looking black horse, four years old, by Yattendon, Gipsy Girl. Atkins was the first on the course this morning. He sent Tho Laird and Herotauuga twice round the plough at a good useful pnee, and both horses went well and .strong. Kuni was sent four times round with the sweaters on. Mischief andLeonato went once round, when they wore joined by Oberon, and went another round at a fast pace ; at the iinish Mischief had all the best of it. Tim W hifllcr and Kingask then went a mile, when they were joined by Horculaniuni, the three striding along at a fast pace, the two first fiuishing strong and well, with Herculanium lounging along in the rear. Leonora and tho Musket-Wiunifred filly then went a two mile gallop, the last mile fast; tho lilly went really well, moving in fine stylo and "going strong, and kept Leonora moving, Lady Bab and Fear Not then went twice round, and over the hurdles tho marc jumped well but Fear Not baulked twice; the horse then went round once more by himself, when ho jumped well. Robina, Mavis, and Radames were sent twice round the plough fast; Robina seemed to have the most left in her at the finish. Reform went twice round by himself; he is looking well and going strong. Pastime also went twice round at a moderate pace. McLean's string did useful work, Marjory doing a mile a half fast.

I see that the Muskct-Winnifred filly is nominated incorrectly for the Guineas, and by rule '2-1 (?) it states that "in case of incorrect nomination it shall be in the discretion of the stewards or committee to amend tho same, provided they aro satisfied that such faulty nomination has been made without any intention to defraud, such amendment only to bo made prior to the race raking place for which such animal is engaged, and in the case of handicap prior to the advertised date for tho publication of weights. In the event of the stewards or committee amending the nomination aforesaid they shall inflict a flue of not less than £5." It is to bo hoped that the owner will not forgot to take the proper steps to have tho nomination rectified in time, as I am certain she is a good filly.
