ALARMING BOILER EXPLOSION.

"Wellington, This day.

A boiler used for the purpose of driving , a wood cutting Machine at'Mr'S. Brown's wood and coal yard, Tory-street, exploded at I o'clock this afternoon. The concussion ■was felt over the μ-reator portion of the town. The shed in which the hoiler was situated was completely wrecked, and large sheets of corrugated iron were carried into the neighbouring yards some distance away. A horse standing within five yards of the explosion escaped injury, but a cart was twisted about considerably, one wheel bring , wrenched off, and other damage done which renders it unfit for use. The boiler itself is a mnss of broken iron, parts being , torn as it' brown paper, and some of tiio heavy parts wore lifted to the opposite sido of the yard, but fortunately no person was hurt. A woman was in the yard picking up wood at

the time, but, beyond the fright, received no injury. The manager and one of the Avorkmen wore in a shed adjoining taking dinner when the accident occurred, and they in no way can account for tho explosion. A large number of windows were smashed by the concussion.
