(Before Captain Preece, R.M.) DRUNKENNESS.

Thomas McAuley Avas charged with having been drunk in a railway carriage at Hastings. Sergeant Burtcnshaw explained that the prisoner Avent to the Napier railway station yesterday, and left 7s Avith the ticket clerk to pay his fare to Waipukurau, but by mistake he got into the 12.30 train for Hattiugs without any ticket whatever. On arriving there he had only Is in his possession, and being under the influence of drink he was given in charge by the guard. Tho prisoner, who was unknoATn to tho police, was discharged with a caution. LUNACY. Margaret Golder, on remand, charged^as above, was further remanded until the 17th instant. CIVIL CASES. Ncal and Close v. Lysnar.—Claim £3 3s, goods sold and delivered. Judgment, by default, for the amount, with costs Bs. J. Higgins v. W. L. Rocs.—Claim £5 ISs, dishonored cheque and interest. Mr Lascelles for the plaintiff. Judgment by default, for amount, with costs 12s, and solicitor's fee £1 Is.

Leonard v. Barrows.—Claim .€IOO, commission. Mr Cornford for the plaintiff, aud Mr Lascolles for the defendant. Adjourned on the application of the plaintiff's solicitor until October 2nd.

Cassinv. J. Clarke.—Claim £7 19s Sd, judgment debt. His Worship adjourned the case until the 23rd October, when, if the debt is not extinguished, an order will be made.

Cleary v. Madden and Hogan.—Claim £2-1 3s, work and labor done. Mr Lee appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Lascelles for tho defendants. The defence was that tho r>laintitf only Avorkcd 2G clays oh hours, and not 49 days) as set forth in tho bill of particulars. Two sets-off were also filed. Mr Lee denied tho whole of tho items ou the sets-off, Avith the exception of the two first. Evidence having been taken the case Avas adjourned for a fortnight to admit of the production of some documents which are at the Wairoa. Philson v. Roundtrco.—Claim £11 10s. Judgment by default for amount Avith costs 19s. In a number of cases judgment was confessed, and one case Avas struck out in the absence of both parties to tho suit.
