The Committee met at 2 p.m. Present: Messrs F. Button, M.H.R. (chairman), J. A. Smith, E. W. Knowles, S. Carnell, M. R. Miller, C. L. Margoliouth, and H. Williams. VISITINO COMMITTEE, Messrs M. R. Millet and £ 'W. Knowles were appointee! tlie visiting committee fqi l . the ensuing month. SUKGEON-SUrERINTKNDENT'S REPORT. Thg 'SurgGon-Superintendenfc reported that tho now surgical instruments had arrived, but h,e was unable to certify as to

their condition, &c, until a cabinet was provided in which to place them. In the eye instrument, he noticed, there was a deficiency, which the makers would have to supply. The employment of a patient, who was suffering from partial paralysis of the lower extremities, as surgery and general assistant, at 10s per week, with residence, was recommended. This patient was by trade an instrument maker. The report contained a suggestion that the private practitioners in town should be permitted to borrow and use the instruments for operations, on their own responsibility. It was agreed to approve of the SurgeonSuperintendent's suggestions, and the remuneration to the patient recommended to act as general assistant was fixed at 5s per week with residence. VISITING COMMITTEE'S BEPOKT. The followino: report was received from the Visiting Committee: — Wo visited the Hospital on the 17th of August, and found all the wards, lavatory, kitchen, laundry, and all parts of the builing clean, and overything working satisfactorily. We drew the Surgeon Superintendent's attention to the report made at the last meeting of the Hospital Committee: '' That a patient had gone to the races, returning in the middle of the night to his bed." The surgeon explained that the patient whoso name is White, was discharged from the hospital on the 2oth of June and returned on the 3rd of July in tho manner before mentioned, a most irregular proceeding, but as he, White, was suffering from a most painful complaint lie (the surgeon) allowed him to remain, at tho same time cautioning the patient that such conduct would not be tolerated again. We again visited the hospital on the 30th of August, and found everything working smoothly, and the patients quite contented. The number of patients on the 17th were:—Males 21, females 10, and on the 30th: Males 20, females 13.

Christina McGillivary, a trained nurse, ia now attached to the hospital, and appears to be giving every satisfaction ; wo recom • mend her pay should be £1 por week. We also recommend that a urinal should be erected.

We authorised a case for holding the surgical instruments (lately imported) to bo made and it is now almost completed.

Wo would suggest that any medical practitioner here "requiring the use of any of the surgical instruments may have them by giving a receipt for them and undertaking to return them in good order. The new wings now in course of erection are drawing- towards completion, and will when finislied, bo a most usual addition to the present building. After a short discussion, the report was adonted.
