Mr Carr, Resident Engineer for Hawke's Bay, arrived hero on Tuesday for the purpose of inspecting tho works now being carried out by tho County Council under tho Roads and Bridges Construction Act. Damo Rumor whispers that some of the •work is not likely to bo pronounced O.K.— more's the pity. Wo experienced on Friday afternoon one of tho most violent hailstorms we have had for years. Tho ground was covered to a considerable depth. It is reported that Mr J. Coupor lost a good many lambs.
