According to a proclamation published in last Thursday's Gazette, Fiji is to be no longer considered an infected place.

By an Order in Council, dated August 20th, tho importation of "cattle, horses, sheep, swine, and goats" to the colony from all inhabited parts of the world, except tho Australian colonies, is prohibited.

It states that the Ross United Gold Mining Company are still carrying a good face of wash in tho cross drive leading from the tail race extension drive. They have now driven about GO feet in the direction of their boundary line on tho terrace side, and, as they have still 435 feet more to go, it is almost certain that a very extensive area has been opened in this level alone. The ground of this company is bounded on the north side by the Ross No. 2 Gold Mining , Company, and on tho south by the new Mikonui Water Race and Gold Mining Company.
