CETEWAYO MASSING TROOrS ON NATAL BORDER. LONDON. August 21. M'e.';sr.s Balnio and Co.'s wool sales opened to-day with a miscellaneous catalogue of
over 11,000 bales. There was a moderate attendance, and the bidding was irregular. The prices realised were a shade easier. Tho bulk of the new capital in the New Zealand Shipping Company has been subscribed.

At tho inquest on the body of Archbishop Vanghan a verdict of death from natural causes was returned. The Hon. Evelyn Ashley, the TjnderSecrctarv for tho Colonies, has admitted the force of "the colonies dreading foreign convict stations being formed among the Pacific Islands, and the Imperial Government will strain every point to prevent them. Instead of an immediate annexation of New Guinea, lie preferred to proceed cautiously and by gradual steps. His reply to the AgentsGenerals' despatch was as yet unprepared. August 23.
The funeral of Archbishop Vaughan took place to-day. Amongst those present were the Roman' Catholic Bishops of Liverpool, Sidford, Newport, Leeds, and Northampton, the President of the Anglo-Benedict Society, and eighty priests. A large number of' the general public attended. The four brothers of the deceased celebrated Mass. Tho body was deposited in the family vault at Bhmdell, but will probably be removed to Belmont.
Signor Rfiflaelle Monte, the well-known sculptor, lias completed statues of the Queen and the Prince of Wales. The military officers recently appointed to tho charge of Victorian defence will sail for Victoria on the Ist of October.
Australian hops are selling at £10 13s per cwt. Tho House of Commons, by a unanimous vote, have resolved not to accept the amendments in the Tenant's Compensation Bill, and the Lords have therefore abandoned them.
In consequence of the hostilities at Tonquin a British ship of war has been ordered to proceed to Canton. Messrs Beach and Gibson, M. P.'s addressed a meeting of seventy thousand Tories in Yorkshire yesterday, and were received with great enthusiasm. Cctcwayo is collecting his force on the Natal border, and British troops are about to proceedfto the Zululand frontier.
