THE ECLIPSE OF THE SUN.
Wellington, This day. Dr. Hector Avrites to a local paper that in the astronomical column in Nature, of the 2Sth June, the result of more accurate computations are given of the moon's expected place during the next great total eclipse of the sun, which Avill occur on tho Oth of September, 1885. The only land AA'hich the moon's shadow will cross on that occasion is Ncav Zealand, and it iioav appears that the central line of totality will pass over AVellington, Avhich Avill be the most important observing station. The total eclipse will commence here on the morning of the Oth of September, at 7hrs. 35mins. 12secs. of mean Ncav Zealand time, which is about an hour and a half after sunrise. The duration of tho total darkness AA'ill be lmin. 23secs. The total eclipse also passes over Nelson, where it commences at Thrs. 3-lmins. Ssccs., but only lasts lmin. 3socs.
