POLITICAL NEWS.
[by telegraph,]
[from our own correspondent.] Wellington, This day,
Tho piece dc resistance to-day is supposed to be that of the contract agreed to by the Minister of Immigration and the New Zealand Shipping Company, but then tho unexpected always does happen, and it is quite on the cards that we may have another sceno in tho Dargavillo matter. This subjoct would not have been on the hoard to-day were it not that a proposal has to be made for a fresh member of the committee to take the place of Mr Hurst, who is known to be unfriendly to Mr Dargavillc, and it may just happen that, there may be an impromptu debate got up. In tho present excited state of party feeling, should such happen, it will be very much to be regretted. An effort is to be made to get tho Speaker on the committee, in which case he would of course be elected chairman.
To-day, at miction, in the share market, as regards Tcrawhiti stocks, there was quite a panic, prices being fifty per cent, down on yesterday's quotations, said to be partly due to to-morrow being call day, and partly the prospocfc of the Golden Crown's crushing not turning out so well as was at one time anticipated.
