HORSE TAMING.

On Tuesday evening Professor Liehtwurk, a horse tamer of considerable repute in the Wairarapa district, gave a lecture on the management of horses in the Rechabite Hall, Waipawa, to a large audience. On Wednesday, at Mr McGreevy's Repository, the Professor gave practical instructions on his method of treating unbroken and other horses to a class of about twenty-five pupils at one guinea each, all of whom afterwards testified to having had more than their moneys worth. The first horse yarded was a five-year-old marc, the property of Mr C. Arrow. This animal had never before boon handled, and lashed out with its heels at, almost every object, it approached, and altogether was described by those present as it "regular terror." In about a couple of hours' time the mare was almost as tractable as a dog under the Professor's treatment. A young colt, which was even wilder than its predecessor, was also experimented on, and in less than an hour allowed itself to ho handled like an old \^-- J " stager." The Professor does all his taming by kind and patient treatment, the animal noticing ill-treated in anyway, and after one lesson any person could manage unbroken horses almost as successfully as the Professor, so simple is the treatment. Mr Lichtwark also gave useful advice on the matter in connection with the management of horses. liorscbreakcrs and others connected with horses should certainly not neglect to take a lesson from Mr Lichtwark, as they would learn as much in one hour as ■would save them weeks of trouble with young horses.
