The Board met at 11 a.m. Present—The Chief Commissioner (in tho chair), Captain Russell, MrR. Harding, and Mr J. T. Tylee. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read: — From , Messrs Claridge, Ramlose, and other settlers in the Makaretu district, requesting that tho road laid out through blocks 112, 146, and 147, Makaretu, should be closed, and that another line through the same blocks should bo reserved in place of the one proposed to be closed.—Roferrcd to the Survey Department. From the Rev. D. Sidey, applying , on behalf of the governors of the Napier High School for the rent of the portion of the endowment included in the land leased to _ Messrs Miller and Co.—lt was decido<T"to recommend the paymontof tho rent on 5470 acres for 269 days, from September 13th, 1872, to July 6th, 1883 amounting to £60 10s 3d. From Mr JohnnThodscn, applying to lease section No. 23a, Norsewood.—Applicant to be informed that it was not considered advisable at present to lease tho section. From Messrs Jay and Day, contractors, applying to purchase one acre out of section 17, Danevirko. —Applicants to bo informed that the Board did not intend to sell any of the Crown lands at Danevirko until aftor the railway is completed. From Mr James Herbert, applying to lease with a purchasing clauso section 18, Danovirke.—Applicant to be informed as in tho case of Jay and Day. From Mr Thomas Taylor, stating that the road lino surveyed through section 12, Bush Mills block, runs through tho clearing he has made, and asking for compensation.— Referred to the Ranger to report on tho value of the improvements on the land taken for the road. From Mr Lachlin Morrison, applying for permission to transfer his selection in the village of Kumcroa to Patrick Mahar.—• Applicant to be informed that the selection having been declared forfeited, the request to transfer it could not be entertained. From the clerk to the Norsewood Road, Board, submitting for approval plans showing the roads on which it was proposed to expend the sum of £15 due to the Board from moneys paid into tho Treasury for lands taken up on deferred payments in blocks 3 and 6, Norsewood survey district. • —It was decided that the Board did not approve the expenditure of the wholo grant on the two short lines of road marked on the plans ; that they would only consent to an equitable distribution of tho grant throughout the two blocks, and that they considered the two roads mentioned were entitled to a larger proportion becauso they had not been cleared of bush. From H. G-asson, stating that it would entail a J serious loss on him to fence 40 chains within the next three months, bocause he had recently felled the bush.— Mr Gasson to be informed that ho must build a house on the cleared land and fence 15 chains of his frontage, and that the balance of the fencing must bo erected after his felled bush has been burned off. From P. and A. M'Cormick applying for permission to pay off the balance of purchase money on sections 3 and 4, Bush Mills Special Settlement.—Request banger's report. The Ranger's report on the improvements made in certain sections in tho Bush Mills settlement was read, and it was decided that tho improvements to the end of the second year had been completed with regard to sections 3, 4, and 8, and to tho end of the fourth year with rogard to sections 7 and 10. Tho Ranger was directed to inspect section 5 again in three months, and to report then on the fencing. Witlv* regard to section 11 ifc was decided that tho selector, P. Laurence, bo informed that the improvements required would have to bo carried out before the fourth year from date of transfer. APPLICATION. From Mr Ready, to purchase doferred payments section 9, block 6, Kumoroa village.—License ordered to bo issued. TRANSFER. The transferfrom MrTom Waterworth to Mr John Harris of deferred payments section 30, block 9, Woodvillo survey district, was approved. MOIIAKA BLOCK. It was resolved that Crown lands to tho extent of 6-100 acres in the Mohaka block be surveyed in readiness for settlement. The Board then adjourned.
