July'_ i. Parliament was opened to-day by the Governor. In his speech on the occasion, His Excellency offered congratulation.- upon the prosperous condition and satisfactory progross of tho colony. After referring to the Postal Conference recently held in Sydney the speech remarks upon tho largo number of immigrants now leaving England for the colony in London. Parliament Avill be asked to concur in an address to the Queen praying that effectual measures may lie adopted to prevent the occupation of the Pacific islands by foreign powers. The revenue account shows in a very, marked manner tho continuous advance of the colony, justifying- the remission of the Customs duties upon certain articles of general consumption. Reference was also made to projected railway construction.
