On our fourth page to-day will be found our own correspondent's weekly parliamentary letter from AVellington, also a number of miscellaneous articles of an interesting character.

In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, beforo Captain Precce, R.M., Flora Montizena, on remand as a suspected lunatic, was discharged. The only other case was that of a man charged Avith drunkenness, and AAdio was dismissed.

The members of the newly formed Musical Society, to the number of about eighty, assembled in St. John's school-room last night for the practice of the "Lay of tho Bell." Mr Browne, the conductor, urged upon the members tho desirability of home practice, and the study of music.

Mr Sutton's motion in the House yesterday, in reference to tho erection aud maintenance of hosjutals, brought about a, debate, Avhich, should it lead to no practical results, at all events elicited from tho Hon. Rainer's American War Diorama ivill open positively at the Theatre Royal on Monday fortnight. One of the attractions of the show is the monster gift distribution. AYe notice that in Auckland, whero the diorama is at present being exhibited, tho management is lavishly " gh-ing away" pianos, furniture, gold and silver Avatchcs, breakfast and dinner sets, and CA'cn money. There is a treat in store for the Napier folks.

Our municipal councillors aro often taken by surprise at seeing Avorks being undertaken concerning the authorisation of which they have no recollection. To avoid misunderstandings for the future, avc understand, tho road overseer has been instructed to keep a memorandum book showing the Avorks authorised, ivhich shall ho open to the inspection of councillors. It sometimes happens that Avorks arc not entered upon until more than six months have elapsed since they Avere authorised.

The advantages to bo derived from lifeassurance cannot be too strongly urged on all classes of society, but more especially upon those Avhose means do not allow any substantial savings being made in life. AA'b are glad to hear that the late Joseph Hcdley, Avhose death was recorded lately, took out a policy for £200 in the GoA-ernment Assurance Department not many months before he died. He only paid one premium, but that one small payment secured to his ividoAV a sum of money that cannot but be most acceptable.

The inaugural performance of the Napier Amateur Dramatic Club came off last night at the Theatre Royal, andf notwithstanding several counter attractions, it Avas Aveil attended. The pieces produced Avcre AVybcrt Reeves' comedy-drama "Parted," and a highly amusing farce entitled "Leave it to Me." As the names of the several ladies and gentlemen Avho took part Avero not mentioned in the programme, avc follow the usual journalistic ride observed in such cases, and refrain from criticising their efforts. AYe may, however, state that the leading parts generally Avero in capable hands, and that the entertainment Avas not only highly creditable to the club but Avas much enjoyed by all who bad the pleasure of Avitaessing it. At the end of the first piece Mr Hodgson, stage manager, and the lady avlio took"the leading role, Averc called before the curtain and warmly applauded. The orchestra, with Mr Garry as conductor, and Mr O. 11. Steward as first violinist, Avas everything that could be desired.

Keep regular hours, seek the air Avhere it is purest, avoid unnecessary exposure, Avork Avithout excess, and interlard all with draughts of that celebrated stimulant, Wolfe's Schnapps.—[Advt.]
