ROWDY MEETING AT GISBORNE.

Gisbohne, This day,

A meeting was held here last night for the purpose of discussing the Land Company's Bill. It was densely packed by the opponents of the company, about one hundred boys being in the hall, and a gang of Maoris, who bleated and howled at every speaker who supported the company, no matter what he said. Mr Gannon, in reading clause 15 in the bill, gave his interpretation of it, but Mr Rees challenged the correctness of the interpretation by offering £10, to be given to the hospital, if Mr Gannon was correct. Mr Gannon declined to accept the challenge. The meeting was the most rowdy witnessed here for years.
