The following report was received from tho Board's architect, accompanied by a letter from tho Waipawa Connnitteo with reference to providing their school with a ball:— The works in connection with additions te> school-houses at Taradalo and Port Ahuriri are satisfactorily completed. The teachers house at Makatoku will be completed in the courso of this week._ The work in connection with additions to Meanee school has been commenced. The contract for Frasertown school and house has been let within the amount authorised. The contractor at Gisbome has made a fair start with tho work, and has a good force of men now employed. I.recommend that four of Tobin's tubes, one iron cowl on roof, and a sliding ventilating opening in gable, be provided at each building. This, I calculate, can be done for about £6 10s per school. I would further venture to suggest that four Toliin's tubos be provided for each school-roo?n, Which could be done for about £2 per school. In tho contract for bell turret to Waipawa school no bell was provided for. A suitablo bell can be supplied for about £5 10s. —I have, &c, Rout. Lamb, Architect. A sum of £8 10s was voted for the ventilation of each of the schools, also £5 10s for a bell at Waipawa. SOIIOLAII3UIPS EXAMINATION. The Inspector reported as follows on tho rocont scholarships examination :— The annual examination for scholarships was held at the Napier district school on Monday and Tuesday the 2nd and 3rd instant. Thirteen competitors presented themselves for examination, six of whom were girls. The results show that John Williamson is first with 415 marks out of a possible 610, Mary Grubb second with 384 marks, and Robert Renouf third, with 361 marks. I beg to recommend that a scholarship of the annual value of £20, and tenable for two years be awarded to each of the abovementionod J pupils, such scholarships to date from the termination of the scholarships at present held by Norman Grubb and James Cowell. —I have, &c, H. Hill. The scholarships recommended were approved by tho Board. FOTIL TEACHERS , EXAMINATION. The following is a copy of the Inspector's report:— The annual examination of pupil teachers and of candidates for pupil teachers was held at Napier and Gisborne during tho three clays commencing Monday, July 2nd. Three failuros are recorded in the fourth year, one in the third, two in the second, and one in tho first. There are also three failures among the candidates. Although the failures aro more numerous than usual, I am pleased to state that some of the papers sent in by those who are successful, are admirablo both in matter and arrangement. Nos. 50, 49, and 52 of tho fourth year, 12, 33, and 44 of the third year, 35 and 37 of the second year, and Nos. 31, 28, 30, and 29 of tho lirstyear, are all deserving of special mention. To those pupil teachers who have now completed their full term of service under the Board, and havo passed all their examinations with credit, I would suggest that a small book prize of tho value of about £2 be given to them. The three who deserve special commendation in the fourth year for the general excellence of their work aro Oscar Alpers, Charles Laws, and Margaret Morgan. The style of the papers sont in hy theso teachers I have seldom, seen equalled.—l have, &c, 11.
