The first portion of the cargo of 7840 carcases of mutton ex Fenstanton from Port Chalmers was sold to-day at an average of G-rd per lb. July 9. In the House of Commons to-day Mr Fawcctt, Postmaster-General, stated, in reply to a question, that, in consequence of the disturbance at Brindisi, the next overland mail had been ordered to proceed direct from Port Said to Plymouth without calling at any Mediterranean ports. July 10. _ In the House of Commons last night Sir Stafford Northcote moved that Mr Bradlaugh bo excluded from the precincts of Westminister Palace. After some debate the motion was carried on a division by a largo majority. The Malagasy envoys sailed yesterday on their return to Madagascar. A New South AVales loan of £3,000,000 was placed on the market to-day. The joint committee of the Lords and Commons appointed to report upon the desirability of the projected Channel Tunnel arrived at a decision to-day. After hearing voluminous evidence, and upon subsequent deliberation, a majority of the committee decided against the project as being inexpedient, and calculated to prejudice important national interests.
