The Council met at 2.30 p.m. ANNEXATION OF NEW HEBRIDES,
Mr Wilson resumed the debate on Mr Whitaker's resolution in favor of the colony guaranteeing its share of the expenses in connection with the annexation of the New Hcbriclea. Ho opposed the resolution. Mr G. L. Johnson also opposed it. Mr Robinson, Mr Chamberlain, Mr Barnieoat, Mr Dignan, and Dr. Pollen supported it. The resolution was carried. UNAUTHORISED EXPENDITURE. Mr Oliver moved, "That the Council concur in the resolution passed by the House of Representatives respecting the expenditure for June.'' Sir George Wliitmore condemned the Government for breaking the law in obtaining - the imprest. Mr Whi taker maintained that the action of the Treasurer in the matter was strictly legal, and paid it was taken by his (Mr Whitaker's) advice. Mr Wilson thought the Government had not acted rightly. The motion was agreed to, and the Council rose at 4.50.
