POLITICAL NEWS.
[by telkgeapii.]
[from oue own coeeespondent.] Wellington, This day. That government on any other basis than strictly party lines is a dangerous experiment is abundantly evident even if ono admit that more than half the rumors that are so freely circulated are either canards or attempts Jit "flying kites" so as to draw out those who are supposed to know. When party lines are absent the doors are open wide to abuses which otherwise would not bo tolerated for a moment, and the way is paved for unholy alliances and combinations which have for their objects the aggrandisement of the members'of such combinations, or the benefiting of particular districts at the expense of the colony as a whole. The Canterbury and Westland members, in solemn conclave assembled, have declared that the East Coast railway should be abandoned, and that it is necessary that the East and West Coasts of the South Islands should bo joined by railway. The Ministry will bo interviewed in the matter. Mr Maoandrew is not satisfied in regard to Hansard's usefulness, and accordingly he is going to test the feelings of the House on the matter by moving that each elector should bo supplied with a copy free by post on application.
