THE LYELL MURDER.—PRISONER FOUND GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER.

In the Lyell murder case the jury retired at midnight, and aftor an absence of fortyfive minutes returned witha verdict of manslaughter. The prisoner, in reply to the Judge, said he had been convicted on the oath of a perjured prostitute and two perjured constables. The Judge sentenced him to penal servitude for life, saj r ing at the same time that tho jury had taken a very mcreifiul view of the case, as the evidence fully justified a verdict of wilful murder. The case has created a lot of excitement, tho Court being crowded the whole time.
