SUPREME COURT, NELSON.

Nelson, This day.

The Supreme Court sittings opened today. True bills were found against E. H. Hodgson, for stealing £500 from the National Bank; John Tyrell, proprietor of the Evening Star, Westporfc, for libel; Joseph Busch, for wounding and maiming a horse; and John Davidson, for the murder of Denis Quiiilan, at Lyell. The grand jury adjourned till next day, being unable to proceed in the charge of bigamy against Henry Cook owing to the non-arrival of witnesses from Wellington, Mr Fell, the Crown Prosecutor, intimated that he wanted Mrs Grammatica to give evidence in the murder case, and probably would not prefer an indictment against her, but would obtain leave to defer action until to-morrow. Hodgson pleaded guilty to tho charge of stealing £500, and after a long speech by his counsel in mitigation, his Honor deferred sentence. The libel case of Wright, proprietor of the Buller News, against Tyrell, proprietor of the Westport Star, has been proceeding all day, and will be continued to-morrow. Several law points were raised, and His Honor has expressed his opinion that the verdict against Tyrell's offence does not call for severer punishment than a fine. The trial of Davidson for the murder of Denis Quinlan will not commence before Monday.
