June 13. | A Frenchman attempting to cross the I English Channel in a balloon was carried northward, and descended in the North Sea, where he was rescued by a passingvessel. Mr Small, a Parnellite, has been elected unopposed for the vacancy in the representation of the County of 'Wexford in the House of Commons. At the wool salo to-day there was a firm and active demand. The catalogue comprised 10,200 bales. June 11. Prince George of AVales has sailed as a midshipman in lI.M. corvette Canada for a three years cruise with the Mediterranean squadron. At Birmingham last evening Mr Bright delivered a lengthy address to a crowded audience. In the course of the same _he warmly eulogised the principles of free trade. 'The fetes which have been organised in his honor continue with unabated vigor. The trial of the dynamite conspirators at the Old Bailey was concluded to-day. Four of the prisoners, D. Gallagher, AVhitehead, AVilson, and Curtin, were found guilty, and were sentenced to penal servitude for life. Bernard Gallagher and Ausburghe were acquitted. In the House of Commons to-day Mr Gladstone, in reply to a question, stated that the Government arc about to send an envoy to the Transvaal to negotiate for the settlement of the native trouble.
