FIRM AND ACTIVE DEMAND AT THE WOOL SALES.
GUNBOATS FOR THE DEFENCE OF
QUEENSLAND.
MOTION PROVIDING STATE GRANTS ENABLING IRISH TENANTS TO PURCHASE FARMS PASSED B\ HOUSE OF COMMONS. LONDON. June 12. At the wool sale to-day 11,900 bales were offered, and there was a firm and active demand. Low crossbreds are dull. Tho sales close on the 23rd instant, and the third series will open on August 21. June 13. It has transpired that Queensland has ordered two gunboats and two torpedo boats from England for the defence of the colony. In the House of Commons last night a motion for providing grants by the State to enable Irish tenants to purchase thenfarms was brought before the House by the Conservative leader, and, after a long discussion, was agreed to.
